About Kurt Kleinschmidt (he/him)
I am a licensed professional counselor with over six years experience helping adults (age 18+) develop ways to manage symptoms of depression, anxiety, and trauma, along with other areas of therapy. In addition to working with adults in general, my key areas of focus are on supporting members of the LGBT community and older adults (age 50+) and their unique issues.
I use a collaborative, strength-based, and trauma-informed approach. I typically use a cognitive approach assisting clients in identifying and challenging negative thoughts that impact their emotions and behaviors, what or where these thoughts may be rooted, and build confidence in adapting to change. Whether you are dealing with difficult past experiences, current conflicts and challenges, or have concerns about the future, I would like to provide the presence and support to help.
Evidenced-based therapeutic techniques I typically use:
Cognitive Behavioral and Cognitive Processing therapies
Motivational Interviewing
Solution Focused Brief therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) certified (EMDR is a specific, evidence-based approach for working with posttraumatic stress symptoms, dissociation, and healing from trauma.)
Key areas and experience:
Depression and anxiety
Trauma
Addiction and recovery support
Anger management
